Judging

Each barbecue contest has two sides, cooking and judging. Holy Smokes follows KCBS rules and regulations for contests, to some extent. The main difference being Holy Smokes uses all of the judges’ scores to determine the score for each turn in, whereas KCBS throws out the lowest and highest scores.  We encourage Holy Smokes judges become certified by the Kansas City Barbecue Society.

Holy Smokes Judges Oath

I do solemnly swear to objectively and subjectively evaluate each Barbecue meat that is presented to my eyes, my nose, my hands, and my palate. I accept my duty to be an Official Cure` of Ars Certified Judge, so that truth, justice, excellence in Barbecue and the American way of Life may be strengthened and preserved forever.
